How did Emma beat Hook at Lake Nostros?

This doesn't really make any sense to me, Emma had only recently picked up a sword for the first time and Hook has been a pirate for the past 300 years. I'd imagine being a pirate would mean you'd have the opportunity to perfect your swordsmanship. Emma should not be able to hold her own against him for ANY length of time. Following this logic how did she win? Either Hook was going REALLY easy on her (doubtful) hoặc he just got so cocky he devolved to the skill level of a rookie. But wouldn't it be instinct to avoid rookie mistakes after 300 years? Blah!
