I personally listen to the lyrics more than the actual music, but the beat and rhythm are more important. You can have great lyrics but if the song has no life, it's gonna flop.

If the song has good lyrics I might listen to it no matter the beat / rhythm, but if it's shyty lyrics I say pass. And songs should convey messages and they can do that through lyrics more than the beat / rhythm :)

As cheesy as this is going to sound, I "feel" music through the actual music, not the lyrics, which is why songs that have a lot of bombastic, dramatic, and slow and melancholy melodies are so important to me. Good lyrics are important, too, but I can easily listen to bands with corny lyrics as long as they have an awesome sound.

I can't listen to the song if the lyrics suck. And if the lyrics are amazing, I'll listen to it without any consideration for the beat.

People who don't speak whatever language might not understand the words, but they can still hear the rhythm. Music is the universal language.

It depends on what kind of music I'm referring to though.

I don't care alot for how catchy the song can be , if you want to impress me , the song should have the both , but I always look at the lyrics first , the lyrics are the most important to me and if I didn't like the lyrics much , I don't listen to the song again
all the musicians can write music but not all of them can write songs lyrics cause it's not a big part of what they learn , if you want a real art and real music look at the lyrics first , when the song has a great lyrics then it has good music , that's my way to like new songs I've never heard

Usually it's always the lyrics that attract me to a song some it might be the rhythm but it mostly has to be the lyrics easily.

The Lyrics make or break a artist's success plain and simple.
