phim chiếu rạp Do bạn think filmmakers should stop making so many remakes of other movies, and be original and come up with their own ideas like in the 1990s?

Well, sometimes I really enjoy revamps or remakes. Batman Begins/the Dark Knight for example. But some things I have absolutely no interest in seeing. The new Freddy movie for instance. But that could be because I hate horror flicks anyway. Horror flicks continually recycle ideas anyway. Even if it was a 'new' story, it's not really going to be that original. IMO there's a surplus of horror movies out there anyway. How many different ways can you 'be scared' and still be entertained?

But I'm still open to other kinds of remakes/revamps. But I'm generally harder on them than on other movies.

It depends on the movie, I suppose.

Filmmakers don't even need to come up with completely original stories. There are millions of books out there that would make excellent stories for movies. I understand there are copyright laws and whatnot, but it's not that difficult to find inspiration between the pages of a book.

becca85: True, but I' am talking about filmmakers constantly making remakes of horror movies. That gets tiring after awhile, and I' am sick of it. Filmmakers need to spawn more intriguing movie concepts like they did before.

I understand why some film become remakes. When the originals came out they didn't have the technology we have today. It is a treat to see how intense movies can be made using cgi etc. However, the films also seem to loose direction and end up with a tun of plot wholes and general roundness when the focus is on how awesome we canmake this giant, winged, fire breathing dragon!!! (just an example) For the most part, although I appreciate film makers' desire to create mind blowing pictures, some movies are just better left alone. Whether the original is Ben Hur, Saw, or Shrek--you should be warry to mess with a good thing..you just might ruin it.

I' am just burnt out on seeing the same sequels every year. For instance, "Harry Potter, SAW, and Friday the 13th."

Harry Potter isn't a remake, it's a sequel so that's a different thing altogether. I for one get excited every year to see the new trailer for the new HP movie because I love that story. It's not the same movie over and over again, each one is decidedly different from the one before. And really there are plenty of original movies out there. It's not like remakes/sequels are the only things getting made.

I agree with fanfly - Harry Potter doesn't count. What the creator meant was:

Horpot (1951)
Horpot (2009)

Btw, 'Horpot' isn't a real movie (I don't think..) so please don't try and rent it from a store, they'll just think you're plain stupid.

Anyway, remakes are bad for the most part, but I have to say I did enjoy the recent take on Clash of the Titans - really good!!

I'm usually hard on remakes. Occasionally there'll be one I like though. My main problem (aside from remakes being so hot right now, because it means there's a drought of originality) is remakes of movies that didn't need them. In my opinion the only reason to do a remake is if the original is outdated in such a way that it will be unenjoyable to new audiences. For example a story that needed to rely on special effects. The old special effects can be very distracting because they've come so far, so an old story with a lot of special effects I understand a remake. A story with a good basic idea that features something like old school racism or sexism because of the time that may offend or distract new audiences from the plot, I understand a remake. The problem is the unnecessary remakes, ones that are made not because the movie needs an update, but because the original was successful and they want to cash in. Those I hate.

I also don't like remakes of horror movies usually, because I prefer old horror movies. These days they rely too much on graphics and gore. They try to scare you with shocks, the old ones tried to scare you with story. Filmmakers these days don't understand that concept, so they replace the plot with more shocks and blood. I used to like horror movies, but I never watch them any more, the genre is getting too lazy to be interesting for me.

Mermaid-Tail said it right. The reason horror movies are so uninteresting these days is because filmmakers having to much confidence in the gore and the jolts. Instead of just trying to develop a good storyline.

A prime example would be Rob Zombie's "Halloween." "Halloween" was much more fascinating when it was being directed by Rick Rosenthal. Rob Zombie made his own little abomination of a great movie.

My only problem with remakes is when it is futile horror films, that have no proper direction or guidance. Those movies annoy me when they are made out with just shock after shock and no actual story development.

The only problem is, people put a lot less creativity in original flicks anymore I'm almost afraid of what would happen if they stopped re-makes. It's rather sad. As long as people make money out of it, we'll never manage to taste a good film in theaters....BUT WAIT that's an old cliche! Some hipster kid whining about bad movies is just getting old so...YEAH LIKE I TTLY THINK REMAKES SUCK!
