This morning I had the opportunity to view some advance footage from the upcoming Australian survival thriller Sanctum, produced bởi James Cameron and due out in theaters tiếp theo tháng in IMAX 3D (I'll post my reaction to this footage later today). Cameron of course is a fellow who knows a thing hoặc two about the format, as well as all kinds of genre filmmaking. So after Cameron and Sanctum's director Alister Grierson spoke with me and a group of other journalists about the film, I made sure to chat with Cameron about his plans for another epic, one that's especially near and dear to our hearts – At the Mountains of Madness, the long-awaited adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's classic horror novella. Cameron will produce Mountains, while Guillermo Del Toro, for whom the film is a dream long in the making, handles the directing chores. Find out what Cameron had to say about the status of what should be the most faithful, fully satisfying Lovecraft film ever made after the jump.

Did bạn manage to get your hands on a copy of the August issue of Providence Monthly?

It contains a piece on H. P. Lovecraft in "The Last Detail" section on the back page; and it includes one of my H.P.L. headstone các bức ảnh from my Flickr collections at: link .

I've just confirmed bởi a quick call to the Providence Online office in Providence, that they did give me a bức ảnh credit; but I have not received a copy of the issue yet. It's "in the mail."

In early July, I began promoting the idea for an August piece on "120 Years of H.P. Lovecraft and Providence" to a large number of newspapers and magazines, and Providence Monthly is the only one that responded with a desire to run with it.

Get your hands on a copy of the issue to see what they actually printed; and your các bình luận are welcome!

The Providence Monthly is the free, oversized magazine that profiles the people, places and things that make Providence a great city; and that can be found in bars, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, art galleries, hoặc any...

Greetings from Fullerton, California!

If bạn liked my original Flickr collection of over 800 các bức ảnh I unveiled last year, "Lovecraft’s Providence, From A Different Angle: Providence & Beyond at the Time of HPL’s Centennial, 1990," but were put off bởi the các bức ảnh being in their original chronological shooting order, instead of bởi location order, then the new collection linked below may become the only way bạn ever look at the same các bức ảnh again!

Providence, Rhode Island: The Streets - A đường phố, street bởi đường phố, street guide to the các bức ảnh in "Lovecraft's Providence, From A Different Angle," is now viewable (along with the original collection) at:

With 95 additional detail các bức ảnh added to the original 803 for clarity; and possibly thêm to come when I begin working on the Boston and Cambridge các bức ảnh after the Providence section is completed, this might be a great research tool for everyone looking for H.P. Lovecraft related các bức ảnh hoặc details.

Classic Lovecraft short story retold.
Back in 1920 H.P. Lovecraft published a short story entitled "The Doom That Came to Sarnath." It was one of his "dream cycle" stories, of events that took place 10,000 years ago.

Here's the basic idea: the city of Sarnath sits on the bờ biển of an inland lake, the "still lake," HPL calls it, founded bởi settlers who had moved westward from a number of other olden realms with names like Kadatheron, Ilarnek, Thraa.

Also on the lake, however, is the ancient city called Ib, "peopled bởi beings not pleasing to behold," HPL also tells us. The men of Sarnath grow to despise these beings, and one day, they assemble their army, go to the city, & slaughter every one of them.

They commit genocide, in other words ... even if the beings "genocided" were not human.

They take the statue of the god these beings worshipped, named Bokrug, back to Sarnath and install it in their own High Temple.

But that very night, something terrible happens. In HPL's immortal words, "weird lights were seen over the lake, and in the morning the people found the idol gone and the high-priest Taran-Ish lying dead, as from some fear unspeakable. And...

Greetings from Fullerton, California!

I'm still fleshing out the descriptions, notes, tags, and more, but I have added the following Lovecraftian collections to my Flickr Collections page at:

link

"Eldritch Leanings: A Lovecraft Fanzine". I wanted to get these issues from 1976, 77, 78, and 79, with their articles, comments, letters, and các bức ảnh (including the color versions for the very first time) up on Flickr before I begin posting the Authors/Letters/Photos Collection that will contain material that references Eldritch Leanings, hoặc that illustrates people mentioned in Eldritch Leanings.

"The H.P. Lovecraft Panel at IguanaCon 1978". This collection also includes a few prints not used in Eldritch Leanings; and the audio tapes will be soon be converted to mp3 format to be made freely available at a web site near you.

The Number Two Expectation:
There is a very good chance that the August issue of Providence Monthly will contain something of interest to all Lovecraftians. I have been promoting the idea for an August piece on "120 Years of H.P. Lovecraft and Providence;" and I have reason to believe that Providence Monthly is going to do something related to what I have suggested. Get your hands on a copy of the issue, and check out the back page, "The Last Detail" to see what shows up. Watch for a headstone shot that might look familiar to those who've looked through my thiên nga Point Cemetery photos. The Providence Monthly is the free, oversized magazine that profiles the people, places and things that make Providence a great city; and that can be found in bars, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, art galleries, hoặc any place around town where people congregate and interesting things happen. Eighteen thousand copies are distributed each month.

Greetings to all the những người hâm mộ of H.P. Lovecraft. I won't take up too much of your time, I wanted to share something with bạn that's been on my tim, trái tim for a long time now. I used to đăng lên a magazine called Dagger of the Mind. While it was fun, it was also a challenge. Long story short, I decided to cease publication for numerous reasons. Before I ceasing publication, I received a Cthulhu Mythos story with a new slant on it. That story, though I didn't đăng lên it, left an impression on me which still lingers to this day. Even as a Christian I did't really think that there was a way to incorporate Thiên chúa giáo into the milieu. That seed took thêm than 20 years to germinate.

The story in câu hỏi was a solid Cthulhu Mythos story with a Christian emphasis. It wasn't overstated but subtle. I'm in the process of seeking stories for publication relative to the central theme of Thiên chúa giáo woven into the storyline of the Cthulhu Mythos. I have a tiêu đề for the collection and even a book cover concept which the Lord gave me several nights cách đây and they're still running through my mind. I'm excited about this and I pray that enough of bạn are too in order to bring this to...
