I hope so because I seriously hate him!

I'm so confused about the whole Snape thing, I know alot of people think that he really was loyal to Dumbledore and that he killed him to keep his cover with the death eaters but I'm not convinced.... Not long left now to find out!

I agree with tiny dancer: his actions are confusing.

I had a thought the other day though: is it as simple as he killed Dumbledore because he did the unbreakable vow and promised to kill him if Malfoy couldn't? Maybe he just didn't want to die.

I believe the whole theory that Snape and Dumbledore planned the whole thing to keep Snape undercover.

I know Dumbledore's a genius and everything and he seriously knows what he's doing most of the time but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want to die and leave Harry alone with all those horcruxes left to destroy. Sorry this is really bugging me.

Remind me - did book 7 end right after he died (and the funeral? When was it?) Maybe JK will throw in the whole time-turner again? Hope she won't. Anyway, Dumbledore'll always be there what with all those memories and pensieves etc...

That aside, I think Snape being evil has already been covered and is a bit obvious - so I'll say that he isn't. Just because :)

i'm not sure about snape, i don't think him and dumbledore planed that snape would kill him, but there is defo a twist somewhere that we won't expect in the 7th book to do with snape's loyaltys...dumbledore had to die though, i think he will still be able to help harry though he'll have left things behind as clues

at this point it doesn't matter if he's good or bad. either way he's still with voldemort

He is not evil, nor is he good. He will do the right thing in the end, but won't get any nicer because of it.

He will come through in the end, Dumbledore's never wrong, plus it would be far too easy if he was just evil, and a bit rubbish really.

Severus Snape is a hero and in my eyes will remain so.

To be honest, it would be a bit of a rip off if he turned out to be evil after all of this!

I think its less expected that he IS evil. Really i was so shocked when he killed Dumbledore because after all this time we've been convinced he's been working for the Order. So we've got the evidence to back up that he is a Death Eater (killing Dumbledore) and everybody thinks he's still a good guy!
Basically we're expecting a twist so really the BIGGEST twist is that there isn't one at all lol.

Spot on with the Dumbledore begging Snape to kill him bit, that was part of a longer argument I made elsewhere... I think JK DOES twist things in unexpected ways, but logical ones after you think about it (IE, in PoA the twist with Sirius being a good guy after all-- shocking, but logical once explained). Making him evil after all this time, while being an unexpected twist, would not be a logical one when you think about it. And as for "expecting the unexpected" (so to speak), only 44% (according to this poll) believe that Snape is good after all. That's less than half, as the rest is either undecided or convinced that he is evil.

Besides, I think JKR has a way of rewarding attentive (or should I say obsessive?) readers who notice the little details in the book. I've seen few details to suggest Snape is evil and plenty that suggest he is, in actuality, good. There are, of course, big things that suggest Snape is evil, but those tend to be red herrings (IE, Snape as the main suspect in SS/PS and it turned out to be Quirrell).

Is everyone here nuts? He killed Dumbledore, who was on his knees pleading, wandless. He offered no sort of explanation to anyone (He could at least TRY to contact someone from the order if there were some ungodly reason why he had to kill Dumbledore). He is evil. There is no doubt in my mind.

But I think the point everyone is trying to make (which I understand now) is that Dumbledore would never plead for someone to save his life. It had to be something else. I reread HBP and I understand it now.

how can he be dumbledore's man?? he killed him.. that proved it to all of us who had some hope snape would be a good person.. but apparently not...

snape didn't had harry over because that's voldermort's job.. but really he wouldnt have killed dumbledore if he REALLY was on their side.. if he was "dumbledore's man" WHY WOULD HE KILL HIM?
and to keep his cover.. is definitely not a good enough answer.. he is just evil..
Plus although dumbledore is never wrong.. we are on Harry's side.. and harry never trusted him..

I think voldermort is not ready yet to face harry.. but when he is it is his unfinished business... so thats why snape never handed him over...

but he did kill dumbledore.. and there is definitely no good enough explanation for that other than he is evil and a death eater..

I know it´s an easy question now, but I was always convinced he was the good guy, even after he killed Dumbledore (there were hints).
But what can I say, I just adore Snape, and was really happy about how his part turned out. It was sad, but it did make his character all that more interesting.

I dont like him though, even after the 7th book. Most overrated Harry Potter character in my opinion! I only like him in the films because of Alan Rickman.

strangely,i had some respect for snape(after i read the last book,that is),he's gone through so much from the beginning,when i read his story i almost cried...though,of course,i still don't forgive him for his behaviour towards harry,i just understand

Snape had mostly good intentions but mostly just out of his love for Lily if werent for her death he would have most likely stayed evil, I think that throughout the series he sill had some evil in him, which why he is such a jerk throughout the series but overall he was a brave freakin awesome character! I also like Snapes evil side!
