10 Reasons I Can't Stand Bella thiên nga

Before I begin, I’d like to set one thing straight: I’m not against Twilight fans. I respect bạn and your opinions. I just have different ones. These reasons are opinion and fact mixed together. Please don't disrespect me for my opinions. Also, warning: This will be long.

After completely the Harry Potter series, I looked for the tiếp theo “big thing.” Being in middle school, the tiếp theo “big thing” was the Twilight Saga. Sure, why not. I read them through once. I didn’t tình yêu it. I didn’t hate it. It was just another book. I never laughed, hoặc cried. It never pulled any emotion out of me in the way Harry Potter did.

After a little break, I decided to reread the books. Maybe this time I would cry when Edward left Bella. Maybe I would laugh when she broke her fist punching Jacob. Maybe I would really think that it was just as good as Harry Potter.

Rereading the books, I did laugh. I wanted to cry. Because I had realized what a literary failure this was. I had realized just why Hermione is so much better than Bella, discovered the reasons that Harry Potter was so much better. I realized the absence of a plot and the fact that characters are all static and unlovable.

And I decided that I really, really hated Bella Swan.

As a whole, the Twilight Saga is just a pesky fad. I don’t particularly loathe hoặc hate it. It’s a book I read that I thought that it was badly written, the plot nonexistent, and the characters poorly constructed. The one thing I hated about the series, that I really couldn’t stand, was Bella.

The main reason I couldn’t stand her was because of her complete and utter crap role model, as well as a very poor character. Here are some of the many, many reasons.

1.)    Her first ngày of school. I have also been a new girl in a small town (yes, just as small as Forks) and trust me, bạn don’t have guys falling over to help you, trying to get your attention, and bạn absolutely don’t have Những người bạn on the first ngày of school. (I will admit, however, that it’s not only Twilight that has this problem. Many sách series unrealistically have Cô gái kỳ quặc heroines with instant friends. Not true!)

2.)    Oh, my life just stinks! I have a boyfriend who’s obsessed with me, loving parents, Những người bạn who I completely ignore, and oh, woe-is-me! Bella is constantly whining about everything she can’t have, when she already has so much! “I tình yêu Edward! Edward won’t let me Kiss him! I tình yêu Edward! Edward won’t let me see Jacob! I tình yêu Edward! Oh my gosh, I tình yêu Jacob but I tình yêu Edward more! I tình yêu Edward!” That, my friends, is the summary of four books.

3.)    Bella is completely and utterly male-dependent. Oh my life just stinks, oh wait, there’s a hot guy! All better! The hot guy left me? Here’s another one! All better! Uh-oh, now I have to choose! When she doesn’t have Edward hoặc Jacob bởi her side, she is a zombie. She is never shown as fighting hoặc being strong, only hiding in the background while Jacob and Edward do her work for her.

4.)    The Break-Up. How pathetic can bạn get? This is where the role-model part comes in. If you’ll forgive me, I’m going to do a little Bella-Hermione comparison. Bella: “Okay girls, if your boyfriend leaves you, bạn are nothing. Go jump off a cliff.” Hermione: “Okay girls, if your boyfriend leaves you, it’s okay to cry for a while, but bạn have to pull yourself together and keep on going.”

5.)    The Shield. Mary Sue alert! Of course they wouldn’t have won the battle without Bella! Her shield is oh so super important! One of the main signs of a Mary Sue is that the “good guys” couldn’t win the battle against the “bad guys” without the Mary Sue. Hmm. Sound familiar? Breaking Dawn, page 742, “So, it was a combination of things there at the end, but what it really boiled down to was…Bella.”

6.)    Skipping the newborn bloodthirstiness. Another Mary Sue alert! Bella is too perfect to go through the bloodthirstiness of being a newborn, of course. Incredibly annoying and unrealistic.

7.)    Bella is a terrible friend. She has friends, and then completely ignores them to spend all her time with her boyfriend. When her boyfriend is gone, she expects her Những người bạn to tình yêu and hug her and accept her back! If they don’t, they are the terrible friends. But oh, when Edward gets back, good-bye amigos. She completely uses her friends, barely paying attention to them when Edward is around.

8.)    Despite the fact that Bella is a personality devoid, whiny brat, everybody adores her. Mary Sue much? If bạn don’t adore Bella, bạn are portrayed as a shallow chó cái, bitch hoặc an enemy.

9.)    Bella just isn’t very intelligent. Sure, she reads classics and gets good grades so that she seems smart, but when she finds out that a guy has been watching her sleep for two months, oh, it’s just so gosh darn romantic! I’d bet that if he hadn’t been an incredibly hot vampire, she would have screamed and called for her dad. Shallow much?

10.)    All she cares about is Edward’s looks. The only thing she can do is moon on about his eyes, his hair, those eyes. And how perfect he is. The piano? Expert. Smart? Of course! The relationship doesn’t di chuyển beyond Edward’s looks and his supposed perfection. Does she care that he controls who she sees, who her Những người bạn are, and follows her (or has Alice follow her) wherever she goes, the exact traits of an abusive boyfriend? Nope, because he has those gorgeous eyes…

These point conflict each other. first, you say Bella complains all the time, even though she has all these guys around her, then you turn around and say she's "all better" whenever a guy is around. Which one is it? 4. Different people have different ways of coping. I approve of nearly all methods. I find it difficult to disrespect one's grievance. 7. It was a two way street. They didn't do much to reach out to her either. Bella didn't really expect them to accept her back with open arms. She mentioned hoe she probably didn't deserve that. If you pay close enough attention, you'll notice that Bella actually spends more time with her human friends when Edward is around. 8. Not being afraid of someone you know watching you sleep is not a sign of stupidity. It's just a lack of fear or self preservation, which Bella was called out for. It's a character flaw. (You know, the type of flaws that Mary Sue's don't have)

PsyrenDrifter39 i agree, Rose. mary sue much? and i find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that a guy watching u sleep is romantic... more creepy than cute, if u ask me....

Helena-B-Carter @Cassie-1-2-3: Sorry, I'm not purposely trying to picky faults or anything, but I don't agree with your ninth defense. Stephenie Meyer portrayed Bella Swan like that because it was one of the best ways to express their love for each other. Girls love it when they read it. They immediately think "That's so romantic! Edward's so cute!" not even pausing to think whether it is actually illegal. It's another net Meyer cast to draw in audience. Therefore, it is not a character flaw; it is there to make Stephenie Meyer feel good writing it and girls feel good reading it. Author: I agree with you. Especially the first reason. It still happens, but it is the telltale sign of a 'feel-good, mary-sue' book. Because that rarely happens in real life. You may make friends on the first day if you're lucky...but attracting boys like garbage attracts flies? That definitely toes the line. Still, I suppose some people just like reading these books. If I could hinger a guess, it will only be a few more years before they start thinking like us and deciding Twilight isn't worth it.

alexisn10 1. The 'no-friends' thing isn't true. There will be people who will talk to you. If you'r extremely pretty (I've seen this trust me LOL) boys will fall for you. But Bella was plain and boring and all the boys were falling for her. Still unrealistic so I can agree with that. 5. I guess the shield makes sense. I don't see the Mary Sue in that. Edward wasn't able to read her mind for months. Aro couldn't read her mind either. Jane couldn't torture her (yet Alice could see her in her visions...bad writing). So she ended up being a shield when she turned into a vamp. I guess that makes sense... I agree with everything else.

So you approve of ignoring everyone around you, isolating yourself from society, silencing yourself for months, clinging on to the past, and doing dangerous tasks to "see" Edward? I guess looking back at what happened, trying to cheer yourself up, accepting that life goes on, and getting over it is too mainstream. What if it was your friends practicing all of Bella's methods? Wouldn't you be worried? Approving to all methods is like approving of cutting yourself and committing suicide. You can't agree with everything. Bella over reacted big time. If a police officer were to catch her in the midway through the jump they'd probably put her on suicide watch. Clinging to the past will never make you feel better. Moving on will. TriaRose (and myself) thought that Bella's decision was stupid because she put her life at risk for a guy who dumped her instead of moving on. 7. Bella only hung out with Angela once in Eclipse, went to the movies once with Mike in New Moon, and went to the movies once with Angela in New Moon. She spent everyday with Edward. If you add the days the Cullens didn't go to school and Bella sat with her human friends it still doesn't add up. 9. Actually it is. She's lucky that all Edward wanted to do was watch her sleep. What if it was a bed intruder trying to rape her or a burglar. Does Bella wake up and say "okay have fun, there's cookies downstairs"? I think most people would freak out, spray them with pepper spray and call the cops. For Bella to be totally okay with it is just stupid.

cassie-1-2-3 @Helena - You're speaking as if you've had conversations with Stephenie and she revealed to you all her writing secrets. What I said was based on the content of the books, not my opinion of the content of the books. Edward DID point out to Bella that she's not very good at keeping herself alive because she's not very consious. He used her unshakeable trust for him as an example. Bella didn't overreact when she found out Edward watched her because she trusted him.

cassie-1-2-3 4. Pardon? I believe I said I approve of most methods of greiving. I did not say I disapprove of "mainstream" greiving. Yes, I do approve of Bella's method. I do approve of cutting and I do approve of suicide. Obviously I can approve of them, because I do. If it was my friend, I'd just watch, but I'd do my best to not interfere if they don't want interference. Why would Bella be put on suicide watch for cliff diving, but not everyone else who cliff dives? That's all she was doing. If anything, they'd just warn her that the weather was too poor for her to be jumping. If the weather was better, she wouldn't have gotten hurt. 7. Yeah... I didn't say she spent more time with them than with Edward. I said she spent more time with them when Edward was around than when he wasn't. 9. what makes you think Bella trusts absolutely everybody in the world? She trusted Edward because she knew him.

TriaRose 1.) Yes, I'm sure that it does happen, but if Bella was as unattractive as she described herself, it wouldn't. 2&3.) When I said "All better!" it didn't mean she doesn't complain. Because she absolutely did, but she wasn't a comatose zombie when she had a man around her. 4.) I'm not disrespecting people's grieving. I just don't think it's right to attempt suicide over a high school girlfriend/boyfriend that you've known for only a few months (I don't know the exact length of time, correct me if I'm wrong) 5.) The shield was realistic for the purpose of the book, I just saw it as a sign of a Mary Sue when it was the shield that saved everybody. "Good guys" can't defeat "bad guys" without the Mary Sue. 7.) Yes, she does talk to her friends when Edward is around. But it's mostly Edward, Edward, Edward, I-can't-see-Jacob-because-Edward-won't-let-me, Edward, and then little bit of her school friends. 8.) It is. "These reasons are opinion and fact mixed together." The fact is that everybody adores her, and if you don't you're either an enemy or jealous, which is a Mary Sue character trait. 9.) I'll admit I didn't do a very good job with that one, going from intelligence to her reaction to Edward watching her sleep. And if I found out one of my guy friends was watching me sleep, trust me, I'd be really freaked out! Especially if he wasn't one of my friends, just some guy I barely knew. As I said before, the only reason she didn't call the cops was because of Edward's oh-so-amazing eyes. And no, that is NOT a character flaw! Though I agree that she has no sense of self-preservation, it is not a character flaw.

How is it not a character flaw? Is lack of self preservation a characters strength? I don't think it's deniable that it's a part of her character. Which is it, a flaw/weakness or a strength?

TriaRose 1.) Mary Sue. Oh, so beautiful. Denies it. 4.) Not worth suicide, especially in a HIGH SCHOOL relationship. 8.) I just said it wasn't a fact! That is the opinion part! The fact is "everybody adores her, and if you don't you're either an enemy or jealous, which is a Mary Sue character trait." 9.) Not everything about your character has to be a weakness or strength.

cassie-1-2-3 9. So I'm gathering from all this that you don't think of it as a flaw just because you don't want to? You're not giving any explanation, you're just saying "It's not"

TriaRose It could be perceived as a strength. Her constant want/willingness to die for those she lusts over (please don't bite my head off, its just my opinion.) It could also be perceived as a weakness, that she doesn't do anything when she's about to die. Of course, that could also be because she CAN'T do anything when she's about to die besides scream, "EDWARD!" run towards him...and trip.

cassie-1-2-3 It's not that she doesn't do anything to protect herself, it's that she has the tendency to walk into dangerous situations because she doesn't thoroughly think her actions through. It's only natural that a human wouldn't be able to defeat a vampire by just punching them, or whatever is within their human capabilities. It's a weakness that all humans in Twilight have, not just Bella. Honestly, do you think you'd be any better at fighting vampires than Bella? Would you be able to do anything besides run away? (By the way, Bella never ran away and tripped. I don't think she ran away even once.)

TriaRose I never thought about it that way, thanks for opening my eyes. As for running away and tripping, I suppose it was an exaggeration, though it is something Bella would do.

yelloweden I don't see why the two of you are fighting. TriaRose already explained that these were her personal opinios and she ment no offense, bu as usual Twihards are taking evrything to seriosly and not reading through everything.

FlameRose When I read Twilight I actually didn't thought so much about Bella (and Edward). I thought more about the side characters, for example Alice, Rosalie, Jasper, Carlisle and Leah.

Allies57 Pretty much sums up Bella. Bella would be an anti-sue, a mary sue is suppose to be perfect at everything they do, Bella is hardly doing anything perfect, or smart or sane.
