George R.R. Martin ‘Disappointed’ Just About Everyone With This ‘Game Of Thrones’ News

George R.R. Martin, you are a disappointment. You disappoint your fans, HBO, your editors, your publishers, your book agents, the international book translators! Sir, you disappoint us all. Everyone waiting on “The Winds of Winter,” Martin’s sixth installment in the “A Song Of Ice And Fire” book series on which HBO’s “Game Of Thrones” is based, is disappointed.

“No one could possibly be more disappointed than me,” Martin wrote in a post on his Live Journal. “For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, ’I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER’ on or before the last day of 2015. But the book’s not done.”

As it turns out, writing a giant epic novel based in a detailed fantasy land of your own tireless creation is hard. And deadlines creep up on wildly successful novelists just like they do college freshmen before fall finals.

“Look, I have always had problems with deadlines,” Martin wrote. “For whatever reason, I don’t respond well to them.”

Amen, GRRM. But hating deadlines doesn’t reveal to us what fate befalls the beloved Jon Snow. Or Aria. Or Sansa or Bran or Brienne or Stannis or The Hound or Tyrion or Theon — oh god, you have to finish this book!

Season six of “Game Of Thrones” is due out sometime in April and, no dice, Martin won’t be finished with the book by then. So, does that mean then that the books will now be spoiled by the show?

“Given where we are, inevitably, there will be certain plot twists and reveals in season six of GAME OF THRONES that have not yet happened in the books. For years my readers have been ahead of the viewers. This year, for some things, the reverse will be true. How you want to handle that… hey, that’s up to you.”

But it’s going to be all right. When “The Winds Of Winter” finally does come out, Martin’s pretty confident it’ll be on par with the rest of the saga.

“WINDS OF WINTER should be pretty good too, when it comes out. As good as I can make it, anyway.”

Until then, he says “enjoy the show. Enjoy the books.” We survived the “ASOIAF” 6-year drought between “A Feast For Crows” in 2005 and “A Dance With Dragons” in 2011. We were foolish for believing the new book would come out so soon anyway…
