We take a stab at what we\'d like to see happen in the realm next year.
Hey, so... we\'ve never done this before. Not a TV season wish list (we\'ve done plenty of those), but
TV season wish list. Because we\'ve always had the books. Despite the tweaks and twists the story took getting to the screen -- additions, subtractions, extrapolations, etc -- George R. R. Martin\'s novels were always our guide. So we didn\'t need to speculate about upcoming seasons. We\'d just excitedly anticipate all the things we knew and/or assumed were headed our way.
Now there\'re no book. Even if GRRM is able to finish The Winds of Winter before Season 6 of HBO\'s Game of Thrones airs, it won\'t matter. The scripts for Season 6 are done. Directors have been chosen. Casting is already underway and production begins at the end of July. We know Martin\'s told show creators/writers/producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss essentially how the story plays out all the way until the end, but we\'re still in uncharted Thrones territory here.
So we can actually list off demands now. How about that? Of course, the easiest prediction on Game of Thrones will always be "I hope everything I\'ve come to love and cherish withers and dies and darkness consumes all," but let\'s think along some more crowd-pleasing TV show lines. We may not know yet if the series will end with Season 7 or 8 (it sounds highly unlikely to go beyond that), but we do know there are fewer seasons ahead than behind. And the endgame draws near. So let\'s get some payoff.
Sansa had some truly great set-up episodes back in Season 5, but then she disappointingly fell back into abusive imprisonment. And that pain was then used to draw out Theon\'s buried humanity. So she sort of vanished as a character after seemingly being built up as someone who could finally take control of her life and use her name to seek retribution for her family. Perhaps even reclaim the North. So here\'s hoping Season 6 shows us a much more emboldened, empowered Sansa. She\'ll be on the run, so it seems, but let\'s design her to be clever and resourceful now. Theon can ride his road to redemption as well, but not in place of Sansa\'s rebirth, please.
Also - tossing this in here - we\'d love it if either Sansa or Arya, or both, could find out that the other one was still alive. Sansa came super close to learning about Arya in Season 5 (she\'d find out later that Bran and Rickon
, at least),  so let\'s just close this gap.
After "Hardhome" drove home the point that most of humanity was in danger from the Night\'s King and his ever-growing icy army of the dead, it\'s time for humanity to discover this for themselves. The hard way, if need be. Jon Snow was betrayed by his own Night\'s Watch brothers and shivved for looking after the greater good and prioritizing the bigger picture. Now it\'s time for them to see the true, brutal error of their mutinous ways. Winter\'s been coming for five years now. It\'s time to finally land. And take a ton of souls with it.
