I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Almería in Spain (unofficially) confirmed for Game of Thrones Season 6, extras casting on July 9-10 | Watchers on the tường | A Game of Thrones Community for Breaking News, Casting, and Commentary
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
reported earlier this month that Almería in the south of Spain (some 150 miles as the raven flies from Seville and its ‘Water Gardens’) was being scouted as a potential location and an almost certain pick (even before that, Girona and Peñíscola were confirmed as the first two new locations for Season 6).
Now Almería has been unofficially confimed as a shooting location by the sources at
Everything is supposed to be moving along smoothly, and the casting of extras is scheduled for July 9th and 10th.
find the extras casting curious as everything is pointing in the direction of filming taking place on locations in the countryside (the Tabernas desert in particular) and not in the city. For now, all we can do is speculate. Perhaps we will learn more when we get wind of some details from the mass castings in July (Girona and Peñíscola are scheduled already for next week, on July 1st and 2nd).

Where is this supposed to be, exactly? Some part of Dorne? Wherever the Dothhraki are with Dany? I guess we’ll know better by the time the extras are cast.
I kind of hope it’s Dorne. It’s gorgeous. Arid, but gorgeous.
So practically battle of meenreen is confirmed now. Glad to hear this.
dothraki i’m sure. will see a dothraki kalasar probally
i don’t think there will be a bettle of mareen there is no one to fight, no yunkai.
i think they will hurry Dany to Westeros, or so i hope. we really need her ther by the end of season 6
I hope it’s Dothraki. The Dorne story hasn’t been all I thought it would be.
Might be a lannister-dorne battle that’s placed there?
Although in the end, I have no real idea.. No books to base it on and no real clues that point to what this could be.
Dothraki Sea is lush, full of grass – unless the grass has dried up thanks to winter coming, it wouldn’t make sense to have horse lords where theres no grass for the horses to graze
Interesting how the show did not set up the battle of Meeren for season 6, and the battle of Ice basically happened already. They’re diving head straight into The Winds of Winter next season.
A year ago I thought the Battle of Meereen would be out since it would cost looooots and Daenerys wouldn’t even be there but now Tyrion is in Meereen, and they’re not going to have him rule in peace. Daenerys has had lines in s5 along the line of “when my enemies come knocking I want peace in the city” and I think Daario and Tyrion have also had lines this season about how many enemies she’s made.
Probably. I guess they’ll find the ring that Dany dropped. But what happens when they do find her with the Dothraki? And I really hope that Dany doesn’t get brutalized all over again by the Dothraki. I’ve honestly been dreading that since the season ended because unlike the books, Drogon isn’t with her when she encounters the Khalasar.
I agree, but there also needs to be proper set up for it. She’s clearly made enemies throughout Slaver’s Bay but we haven’t heard anything about Yunkai planning any kind of revenge, have we?
Why does everyone jump to the conclusion that a battle will happen there? Nothing we know of so far implies that. It’s most likely just a location where characters will stroll by. Whether Dany/Dothraki, Jorah/Daario or (hopefully) Dorne…
then i think they will swap the yunkai’i with the Sons of the Harpy, and the battle will be inside the city, not a full scale siege
That’s a great idea, I actually didn’t think about that. With Dayne pretty much confirmed, it would make sense. If TOJ is happening then that means that we’ll see younger versions of Ned and Howland. And I’m a huge believer of HS=HR so I would love to see more connections and motivations to what I believe are HR’s current actions.
This is bullshit. First the directors, and now this? When are they going to announce some female locations for Season 6?
He’s not that far and I hope that the fact that he was passed out and a bit of a distance from her is just a small, inconsequential detail. But why not just have Dany and Drogon together like at the end of ADWD? I really, really hope that I’m just looking into this too much lol.
I would say that detail is there to show us that he wont be leaving anytime soon, so she is forced to meet the Dothraki
He isn’t far, and if she is in danger, then he should be able to sense it and come burn the Dothraki lol
I mean, just like she was in danger at the pits, if she was to be again, he should come to her rescue.
Couldn’t agree more, definitely fits my vision of where the ToJ is located!
I haven’t read the books so I don’t know what TOJ is.
I thought it might be Vaes Dothrak, but I went back and looked at shots of it in Season 1 set and it’s pretty lush. This is more likely to be Dorne, or perhaps somewhere else in Essos.
Tower of Joy. You can google it if you’re interested. It’s waaaaaay awesome. But beware spoilery stuff.
that was in malta if i’m not wrong, they no longer film there, so this may be the NEW Vaes Dothrak
Except, like what was said a few times up page, horse people need grass to feed horses.
Thank you, I just needed someone to caress my head and tell me that everything will be okay hahaha.
I’m digging what OswellWhentBatman said. I think that it could totally be TOJ.
CGI…? dont know. maybe they wont bother with that kind of detail.
and anyway i for one see some kind of grass in there, dont know if horses will it that tough, i’m not a expart
could also be TOJ, as was said earlier, or even dorne.
I did read the books – but don’t have a clear sense of where it is. So guess this is as good a spot as any.
Well I don’t even know what TOJ means or what scene it is!
Surprisingly Vaes Dothrak was filmed in Northern Ireland in Season One.
It’s amazing how I can be cold and wet one day and find myself in a vast, Africa-like expanse the next, with a clear blue sky and warm weather to boot. We’re at a location called Sandy Brae (on the opposite end of Northern Ireland) filming the entrance into Vaes Dothrak, the city of the horselords. It’s another scene from my episode and an iconic sequence from the book, featuring the lovely Emilia Clarke, Iain Glen (as trusted knight Jorah Mormont), Harry Lloyd (as Daenerys’s brother, the exiled prince Viserys), and Jason Momoa (as Khal Drogo, commander of a savage tribe of horse riders called the Dothraki.)
This location is unlike any in Northern Ireland; the terrain really does feel like another continent. We have two massive pedestals set up, upon which our CG wizards will render the mighty rearing bronze stallions that make up the Horse Gate – the main entrance of Vaes Dothrak. It’s a difficult shot to pull off: Horseback “walk-and-talks” are trickier than you might think. But we’re two takes down, and the big entrance shot is looking great – even without the color-correcting, music, CGI, etc., it’s breathtaking.
Dispatches From The Seven Kingdoms: Swarming Horde ON THE SET
Well the dragons need to be released and the Sons of the Harpy attacking isn’t exactly a reason to do that, plus I doubt they have much support after they slaughtered people in Daznak’s Pit (and lost most of their numbers)
oh i didn’t know! thanks! then i guess Dorne or ToJ..or Mareen.
or they will get more agrassive without Dany there?
and i believe we need to really think what realising the dragons actoully acomplishes, if its not that important they may skip it alltogheter
Well I won’t be complaining if they break their chains and melt that boulder
And if you’ve looked over the tWoW sample chapters, the dragons get involved in
Can’t believe no one has dropped a #DeepwoodMotteConfirmed on this thread yet!
I don’t think the Dothraki will hurt Dany. It’s more likely she will meet Khal Jhaqo, convince him to join her (or kill him and assume control of his khalasar), then return to Meereen to deal with what’s left of the SOTH and the
most likely that will happen(i hope XD) one way or another
You’re welcome! Who knows, they may decide to change up the look of Vaes Dothrak (or show more of the city) so not sure we can rule it out quite yet.
Personally I’d love for this location to be TOJ. Sergio Leone shot some of his iconic westerns in Almería. Tower of Joy always felt like some mythic scene out of a dusty western like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Just replace the pistols with swords and Clint Eastwood with Sean Bean
Why wouldn’t there be? All the masters there are alive and the story has kept them in the picture in s4 and s5… and now Dany is gone
Of course there could be no siege, but then I’m out of predictions since
Tyrion’s book story and Barristan’s ruling Meereen story both go through the Battle of Meereen
I live 192 km (119 miles) far from Almería. I’ll finish exams on July 8th.
Unfortunately, the countries have no genders in spanish. This is another proof of the misogyny of D&D.
The Dothraki seemed to be circling her celebration rather than to intimidate her. I guess they know that this is Drogons territory and that she has birthed dragons so will see Drogon as the SWMTW. Or perhaps they simply want to take their prize back to join the Dosh Khaleen
