I remember visiting this website once...
It was called HBO asks Brooklyn bar to stop 'Game of Thrones' screenings | EW.com
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
fans in Brooklyn may want to start looking for an HBO Now account, as a weekly public screening of the drama at one location have come to an end.
Videology, a bar and screening room in Brooklyn, New York, tweeted that HBO has asked the venue to halt all screenings of
Sorry guys. No Game of Thrones showing tonight. Or ever. Not our choice. #WinterIsHere
Wendy Chamberlain, co-owner of Videology, told EW in a statement that HBO sent a “very polite letter” that asked them not to screen the show.
“We had assumed, since so many bars around the neighborhood and all over the city also show
on Sunday nights, that HBO believed, as we do, that public showings of this popular series were good for encouraging fan participation and enthusiasm in the show,” Chamberlain said. “But, in the end, HBO owns this content, so they are well within their rights to ask us not to show it, and so we have willingly complied with their request.”
The bar’s screenings were free, as was VIdeology’s pre-party ahead of the season’s premiere. A limited number of seats could be reserved for the pre-party, not the screening, by ordering a beer and bowl of chili, but otherwise no type of admission was charged for the event.
, a representative for HBO said that “as a pay subscription service, HBO should not be made available in public establishments.”
“When it does happen, it is of particular concern when there is an attempt to profit off the programming,” the statement continued. “We have taken such actions for well over a decade.”
Correction: An earlier version of this article stated Videology charged admission to the
premiere pre-party, when in fact this was not the case.
