OF my country and of my family I have little to say. Ill usage and length of years have driven me from the one, and estranged me from the other. Hereditary wealth afforded me an education of no common order, and a contemplative turn of mind enabled me to methodize the stores which early study very diligently garnered up. -- Beyond all things, the study of the German moralists gave me great delight; not from any ill-advised admiration of their eloquent madness, but from the ease with which my habits of rigid thought enabled me to detect their falsities. I have often been reproached with the...

Ah, broken is the golden bowl! the spirit flown forever!
Let the chuông, bell toll!- a saintly soul floats on the Stygian river;
And, Guy de Vere, hast thou no tear?- weep now hoặc nevermore!
See! on yon drear and rigid cái dá, bội, bier low lies thy love, Lenore!
Come! let the burial rite be read- the funeral song be sung!-
An anthem for the queenliest dead that ever died so young-
A dirge for her the doubly dead in that she died so young.

"Wretches! ye loved her for her wealth and hated her for her pride,
And when she fell in feeble health, ye blessed her- that she died!
How shall the ritual, then, be read?- the requiem...

I've been a long time admirer of Edgar Allan Poe and his works. I've always enjoyed đọc his short stories. He is a true master of suspense.
It was sad to learn that a writer of his caliber was found in a distressed state in his final days leading up to his death in October of 1849.
Throughout history, it seems that those who have được trao us the greatest art sometimes leave this mortal plane in the saddest fashion. Writers like Jack Kerouac, Ernest Hemingway, and many others seem to have been in great turmoil in their final hours and undeserving of their premature demise. This was the case...

'Tis đã đưa ý kiến that when
The hands of men
Tamed this primeval wood,
And hoary trees with groans of woe,
Like warriors bởi an unknown foe,
Were in their strength subdued,
The virgin Earth Gave instant birth
To springs that ne'er did flow
That in the sun Did rivulets run,
And all around rare hoa did blow
The wild rose pale Perfumed the gale
And the queenly lily adown the dale
(Whom the sun and the dew
And the winds did woo),
With the gourd and the giống nho, nho luxuriant grew.

So when in tears
The tình yêu of years
Is wasted like the snow,
And the fine fibrils of its life
bởi the rude wrong of instant strife
Are broken at a blow
Within the heart
Do springs upstart
Of which it doth now know,
And strange, sweet dreams,
Like silent streams
That from new fountains overflow,
With the earlier tide
Of rivers glide
Deep in the tim, trái tim whose hope has died--
Quenching the fires its ashes hide,--
Its ashes, whence will spring and grow
Sweet flowers, ere long,
The rare and radiant hoa of song!

Edgar Allan Poe is and will remain my yêu thích poet of all time. He changed the world with his works. He didn't gain his fame until after his death. It took people in the 1900's and late 1800's to recognize his true genius. Edgar Allan Poe was definitely the best at what he did.Till this day, there is no one who can be compared to Edgar Allan Poe. Some people aspire to write like Edgar Allan Poe, and I'm one of them. We try to grasp his concepts, but cannot. We try to write about horror and love, but we just can't do it. No one can master and grasp his influences of horror, gloom, mystery,...

TRUE! nervous, very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why WILL bạn say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses, not destroyed, not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How then am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily, how calmly, I can tell bạn the whole story.

It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain, but, once conceived, it haunted me ngày and night. Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He...
