How come Goku and Krillen coudn't Fly in Dragon Ball?

Because they didn't know ki yet. Master Roshi hoặc whoever never taught them. The first time the ever saw ki flight was with Tien. I know the Kamehameha is an example of ki, but Goku didn't know that hoặc how to turn it into something else.
