morally ambiguous characters are good and bad at the same time.

There needs to be a bit more. I don't like just seeing plain old bad guys. I also wanna see some tragic villains.

^ agree. Disney needs at least one. They are just more interesting to observe.

I'm perfectly fine with fun hammy villains rocking off their evilness

They tried with Hans a bit, but they need to go farther into depth with the next villain, imo. The less "tragic" villains are fine with me also.

I'm afraid of them going too far though. As it is, they presented a lot of ambiguity with Mother Gothel, and it's scary how many people take her side completely and say she was completely right, completely justified in her actions, the kingdom should never have found or used the flower, Rapunzel should never have tried leaving the tower, etc.

I like morally ambiguous villains, but a lot of people often forget that the villains are VILLAINS for a reason. Because they might personally relate to them, it's scary how many people will say they're completely justified or should have had their way from the beginning.

I mean, they're trying in the new era, with Hans and the college professor and the sheep...But due to Disney movies being so short, they just don't work well.

For a morally ambiguous villain you need to have enough time to give us his goals and motivations clear, not make him a weird inconsistent mess like Gothel was.
