Briar Rose hummed to herself quietly as she picked berries from a bush. She smiled to herself: her aunts thought they could deceive her, but it was obvious they were planning something special for her birthday.
"I wonder what they're doing this year," she thought to herself. "Last năm Aunt Fauna sew for me this khăn choàng cổ, khăn choàng, shawl I'm wearing, Aunt Flora made a hoa pot for me to put my hoa in and Aunt Merryweather baked her special dâu, dâu tây pie recipe. Maybe this năm she'll do a việt quất, blueberry pie."
A chirping caught her ear and she looked up to see her bird Những người bạn perched in a tree's branch to her right. Smiling, she took off her khăn choàng cổ, khăn choàng, shawl and shook her hair to untangle the curls.
"I wonder... I wonder..." Rose sang. She knew her Những người bạn loved it when she sang. "I wonder why each little bird has a someone," she looked dreamily at a couple of birds.
"To sing to, sweet things to, a gay little tình yêu melody," graciously, she accepted the berry the owl offered to her. He was always so eager to please.
She soon stopped working, Mất tích in her thoughts and her songs, in a world of her own. She crossed the woods to a very special place. Her aunts didn't know, but always when she went to the woods, she would stay hours in this spot, where she could stare at the castle.
"I wonder if my tim, trái tim keeps singing, will my tim, trái tim go winging," she sang as she reached the 'special spot'. There it stood, in a mountain and over the river, the majestic building.
Rose smiled fondly as memories rushed to her mind:
Her petite frame perched in the tree's branch, the twelve years-old Briar Rose petted the soft lông, lông thú of her small con sóc, sóc friend. Her hair was pushed back bởi a màu hồng, hồng headband, her body snuggly wrapped in a see-through blue khăn choàng cổ, khăn choàng, shawl over a lavender nightgown. She was barefoot, like always: she liked the feel of her feet touching the fresh cỏ and her aunts respected that. In fact, they seemed quite happy.
Her màu tím irises were in the lâu đài over the river, the white walls turned grey bởi the night. It was the fourth night she would tiptoe out of her room and sneak of the cottage to her special spot in the woods. She had been fascinated bởi it since her Aunt Fauna told her it was a lâu đài and the royal family lived there. Briar Rose had asked her while they were having a picnic. She pretended she didn't notice the looks her aunts shared afterwards.
"There he lives," she whispered softly in the middle of the night. The squirrel, which was almost falling asleep, lulled bởi her gentle hands, lifted his head.
Briar Rose looked at the small animal.
"Him, bạn know," she said. "My dream prince."
The little animal seemed to be eager to hear thêm about this 'him'.
"Someday. he'll find me and..."
