Thiên chúa giáo Câu Hỏi

What about people who practice other religions?

It seems like whenever people talk about "non-Christians", they are referring to the atheist, agnostic-types, hoặc those who just aren't Christians. But what about the trillions of people in the world who practice other religions? I have a Hindu friend, and I am worried about her soul. Should I do anything more? It seems like the whole "converting" process is seen as religously intolerant, but I am really scared for her. She is such a nice person, and I pray for her and all others in the world like her. What should I be doing?

And if bạn think I am being religously intolerant bởi posing this question, I was taught in church that only Christians go to heaven. I would be interested to hear what bạn have heard from other sources/churches, though.

I should also add that she gets very uncomfortable talking about Christianity.

Thiên chúa giáo Các Câu Trả Lời

PREFACE: I don't believe this câu hỏi is intolerant at all. It is a concern and confusion shared bởi several Christians, and comes from the goodness in their hearts and souls, a place where I do not think intolerance can exist.

The thảo luận over who is and is not going to heaven is a complex one. To claim that only Christians are eligible would mean that amazing Giải cứu thế giới like Gandhi, hoặc the thêm contemporary Aung San Suu Kyi, do not have a place in heaven, and yet, less selfless people, just bởi the sake of being Christian, do. It's one I have argued ad nauseum in this very spot, and one reason why I hate it when people assume that they KNOW where they and/or their Những người bạn are going in the afterlife.

Because it's Christian theology, of course the most common sensical concept is that only Christians can get into the Christian Heaven. It's a logical conclusion to come to, and the Bible does say in several places that being a Christian is a necessity to qualify for citizenship in Heaven.

But what is being a Christian? Is it simply believing in Christ and going to Church every Sunday? Not bởi a long shot. The Bible also places a heavy emphasis on doing good works. That is, not just declaring yourself a Christian - but acting like one. Again, this sounds like common sense, but it's a task that's easier đã đưa ý kiến than done.

Countless times, the Bible mentions the importance of doing good works and being a good person in order to gain access to the Pearly Gates. But the Bible also says that those who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior will ALSO go to heaven. Can bạn have one, and not the other, but still inherit the Kingdom?

Before bạn answer... What does it mean to believe in Jesus Christ? It means to believe in his divinity, definitely, but also in his teachings. Christ lived as a paradigm of grace and mercy, and he asked his followers to do the same. To accept Christ is to be Christ Like, and if that's not the ultimate Christian, than I don't know what is.

I believe that if bạn are Christ like, even if bạn have never heard of Jesus Christ, hoặc don't believe in him, but bạn still live his message, whether bạn know it hoặc not, and bạn use your life for the advancement instead of the devaluing of others, then bạn are eligible for Heaven.

I also believe that Jesus and St. Peter determine these matters on a case bởi case basis. bạn can never generalize. bạn don't know anyone's fate after death, be it your own hoặc someone else's. I always tell people, Christians and non, that life shouldn't be about that anyway. Do what bạn can with what bạn have now, so that when that ngày comes bạn can look St. Peter in the eye and say, "I did my best and hope I made bạn proud." Not, "I did everything the Bible said, now let me in."

To answer your original quesiton, though: I think it's thêm important that people walk the righteous path - regardless of their beliefs. bạn can have truth, beauty and a good soul without being a Christian, but bạn can't be a true Christian and lack those things.

dreamfields - Right, and your interpretation is completely valid and accurate, with firm support. But couldn't one argue that to live LIKE Christ - such as Gandhi - is, in a way, accepting him? Though he never converted, due to an aversion to other Christians, Gandhi had a deep respect and passion for Christ, and used him as his influence and inspiration during his struggles. The wording in the Bible passages that I am familiar with does not make this clear to me, including the quote bạn just gave.

Treat your friend with tình yêu and respect. Do not be afraid to share what bạn beleive. Ask God to give bạn words to say. Jesus đã đưa ý kiến the Holy Spirit would give us the words we need. In James 1, it says that if any of us lack wisdom, ask God and He will give it. Keep praying for her, know that God does not always answer in our time, but he does answer. Also, make sure your actions match your words. God Bless You!!!
