With Princess Mithian (Janet Montgomery) as the perfect bait, Morgana conjures a deception so powerful that the whole of Camelot is taken in - even Merlin himself.

But as the storm clouds gather, will the young warlock see through the lies? Or will Morgana at long last fulfil her dreams of revenge?

Colin Morgan is Merlin, Bradley James is Arthur, Angel Coulby is Gwen, Katie McGrath is Morgana, Richard Wilson is Gaius and John Hurt is the voice of the Great Dragon. Tom Hopper, Rupert Young, Eoin Macken and Adetomiwa Edun return as The Knights of the Round Table. Special guest stars include Janet Montgomery as Princess Mithian, and James Fox as King Rodor.

Interesting. So Morgana is behind Mithian's return. Somehow this disappoints me.

Yeah. I'm hoping this is just a poorly-written summary.

Jeez. Just how friggin powerful have they made the witch? Morgana is some how able get saxons to join her in her crusade against Camelot; she has a dragon on her side; she is able to manipulate and deceive Arthur, Merlin, and the whole of Camelot using her 'powerful' magic, and we know somewhere down the road, Mordred will re-join her. Way to stack the deck in Morgana's favor show runners. Might as well change the name of the show to 'Morgana the mighty' and call it a day. By the way, anybody else besides me wonder where the hell Morgana is getting the money to pay Saxons, warlords and slave traders to help her with her vendetta against Arthur, Gwen and Camelot? Maybe Julian and company also gifted her with the ability to create money from air. Next Morgana will be flying, and walking on water.

yes and in the meantime, Merlin is useless emo pain with no redemptive qualities. Way to go showrunners. So foar 0 for 4. Are we trying to actually kill the series? You are doing a most excellent job of it to date. LOL.

WOW....TPTB has given three out of four episodes to Morgana. I don't think she is in episode 3 but you never know. There seems to be nothing else going on in Camelot but Morgana taking over the world. We know she is in more episodes because she will capture Gwen. I cannot believe they are going to make this season about Morgana and not Arwen.

Okay and here is where I disagree. This season is not about Morgana. If they want a total ratings fail they will do this. Even they are not that stupid. It has already gotten beyond boring, they cannot want such a death sentence. I don't think so. Hang in there.

Well I'm hoping that by making Morgana more powerful that means that at some point they're going to make Merlin rise to the challenge. It would be a bit boring if Merlin was all powerful and Morgana was some weak kneed villain that he could just easily brush aside and overcome. Also Merlin is still a dragonlord while Morgana is not so ultimately he can compel Aithusa to leave her side if he wanted to.

I will be disappointed if Mithian has joined forces with Morgana though. That's the exact opposite of what I wanted.

I think Aithusa would have gone with Merlin in 5x02 if he had asked her to, honestly.

Well in episode 6 Gwen is kidnapped and is enchanted by Morgana and this goes on for FOUR episodes. So Morgana already has Ep 1,2, not sure about 3, but is back in 4, unsure about 5, but has 6,7,8,9, if this season doesn't belong to Morgana then what is!!!!!! I am PISS.

Well, she IS the main villain. But I think there is more to this season just it being The Morgana Show, honestly. Yes, she does something to Gwen, but Arthur and Merlin will bring her back.

@Lailstar; I didn't see ep 1 and 2 as being Morgana episodes. Those were ensemble episodes to me. Everyone played a role and got some good screentime. I'm expecting that episode 4 will be similar. Also as Kim said, she is the main villain and as such she has to be there to give the others obstacles to overcome. In the past there have been episodes that were clearly Morgana episodes but having her in an episode doesn't make it a Morgana episode if the focus is on the other characters as well.

She has always been the main antagonist behind their difficulties. Always will be. It's not unusual for a show to have a main villain, but it does focus more on Arthur and Merlin and how they handle the troubles she lays on their path. Agree Stacey that would hurt the show to have her as the main focus. But you always have to have someone in the background stirring up mess for the protagonists.

I'm not exactly sure Mithian is on Morgana's side. Morgana may use her as bait, but how that plays out remains to be seen. There were those promo shots of Arthur, Merlin, and Mithian running away from something. Since they overuse the enchantment tactic as they do, perhaps she's been enchanted and they end up actually saving her from the witch's devises.

Agree though, about what Lucerne is saying about her powers. A bit overdone I must say.

And I agree with Kim about Aithusa. I think she definitely has an affinity for Merlin,

Oh you know what. I just saw that bit about Morgana dressed as an old lady. Probably she'll go along with Morgana unknowingly and there won't be an enchantment involved. Thank goodness.

I would very much want Morgana to be a powerful villain, even if I don't see any just behind her claim.
But like May I want Merlin to rise to the challenge. I want to see the powerful warlock emerge. I also want to see Arthur rise to the challenge. I don't want to see the once and future King beg or be too dependent on Merlin. That is not what legends are made of.

I do believe Arthur will rise to the challenge, after all it was said that he wouldn't hold back against Morgana. But i think that will be after she abducts his Queen.

Yeah, Arthur really needs to step it up and be the legendary hero that he's suppossed to be. If they have him begging mercy from Morgana one more time, I'm going to lose it. The whole Merlin saving Arthur thing has also been overdone. I really want him to stop being dependent on Merlin and to start figuering things out before it's too late.

@HQ: I can't take another enchantment storyline so it'll be good if enchantment is not involved in that episode.

What I meant is, does Morgana have to be present or have her presence felt in so many episodes. They could have had so many other storylines, instead they have chosen to make most of this seasons episode about something she has initiated or is doing and most of it is causing cruelty to others. There are so many stories of legend that they can incorporate into the story of Merlin, but they insist on using this hatred of Morgana against Arthur and Camelot, as if it is the only story plot at their disposal. More than half of the episodes this season will revolve around this, I just think it would be nice to have something fresh and new

I agree. This Morgana is a completed wasted and badly executed version of the LeFay. That aside, there are so many actually good stories that they can utilize hundred of them. Actually hundreds and they have opted for the most boring and trite vestiges and not even properly vestiges of the tale that has the least kick to it and no validity, Morgana, especially their light weight version of her. No, this is not working for me at all on any level. So I am in agreement with you Laila.
