A "masterpiece" is in the eye of the beholder to me. To me, an anime that is a masterpiece is not necessarily one without flaws, but a series that still manages to just blow most others out of the water in my eyes in whatever aspect(s) about it that I find so spectacular, a series that you don't see every day and that stands out on its own above many other series-- basically, just a series that is outstanding in itself, but not necessarily perfect. The very definition of the work "masterpiece" is not "a work that one considers flawless", but "a work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship". I consider a few anime series as masterpieces while I consider none as perfect. Although, given that, if I did find an anime that I felt comfortable calling "perfect", I'm sure I'd revel it as a masterpiece, so...

Not exactly. There has never been such a thing as an absolutely perfect anime, nor has there ever been an anime that has been executed absolutely perfectly. Then again, people tend to use the word "perfect" rather loosely. For me to consider an anime a "masterpiece" I don't focus entirely on execution. I also focus on plot, characters, and the meaning behind the anime. I look for a series that is unique, one that stands out among all the others, one that speaks to me in a way that the other don't. There are very few anime that I consider worthy of being called a masterpiece. However, there is no such thing as perfection.

Oh, and I also do love an anime that makes me think, which is probably why I'm drawn to the psychological, horror, and mystery categories. Also most likely the reason that I'm loving anime such as SEL and Texhnolyze.

No
Any anime can be a masterpiece without reaching perfection in everything in it such as plot, character and does not need the best of both worlds to be called a masterpiece
An anime that is a masterpiece to me is the one that I enjoy watching so much

I don't think there is such as a thing as an anime being executed perfectly. Every one has its flaws and some just have more than others. But what makes it a masterpiece is that it's still an outstanding series despite those flaws.

I rate anime on personal enjoyment, not a critical scale, but my personal enjoyment can depend on how it was executed. I guess it goes in circles.
