A Freak is Found and a Hero Made – American Horror Story: Freak Show – Season 4 Episode 4 – “Edward Mondrake – Part 2”

Are you ready for part two of the Edward Mondrake saga?  Who will bite the bullet and be the next victim to join Mr. Mondrake on the other side?  Also, what will the fate of Twisty’s captives be, or do we want to know? Try not to close your eyes as we get into the conclusion of this American Horror Story Halloween!

Mondrake is continuing his hunt for a pure freak, but he seems to be having some trouble as he visits them one by one. He makes his way to Elsa’s tent but remember, she believes that this is the man that Madison, or should I say Esmerelda, saw in her fortune, which I don’t have to mention again was completely faked.  She tries to woo him but Mondrake is not here for her charms, he wants to know if she is the freak that will be joining him on the other side. Oh wait, you thought Elsa wasn’t a freak? Well think again!

Jimmy and Esmerelda are making their way back to the camp when the run out of gas.  With the curfew in effect Jimmy knows they need to hurry up and get back without getting caught. Just as they are preparing to start their trek they hear a woman screaming as she runs out onto the road. Jimmy and Esmerelda hide as they see Twisty come out of the bushes after the woman.

The woman is the one Twisty has been holding in his caravan.  She managed to escape but as we see that didn’t last long. Jimmy decides, much to Esmerelda’s disbelief, that he is going to try and help the girl. He and Esmerelda head into the woods after Twisty.  Are they mad?!?

Back at Elsa’s tent, we are learning more about Elsa’s story. Where she came from and what her life was like before the freak show. Mondrake wants to know how she became the freak she is today. He wants to know more.

Elsa tells Mondrake a horrifying story about how she found herself in her current uh….state. A voice tells Mondrake she is the one and just as he is about to take Elsa’s life, he is stopped when he hears music.

In the woods, Jimmy awakens to a most insane clown show. Dandy is on a make-shift stage and is about to attempt to saw Esmerelda in half, while Twisty plays his tiny piano.  I don’t think this scene could get more insane. Jimmy and the other captives are the audience and Jimmy is able to break free just as Dandy begins sawing. Jimmy tells everyone to run, but Jimmy is not able to get away as Twisty knocks Jimmy out. The clown is about to ensure that Jimmy is never able to have children when he stops and notices Edward Mondrake standing behind him, ready for a show.

Mondrake asks Twisty to share his story.  Could Twisty possibly be the pure freak Mondrake has been seeking? I must say that Twisty’s story is really heartbreaking.  I didn’t think I could feel sorry for this creepy clown, but his story is sad and you realize how much Twisty went through. After hearing Twisty’s story I had no doubt that Mondrake would choose him and he does, as Jimmy, who has awoken, watches.

Dandy, who was unable to catch Esmerelda and has finished one of his epic tantrums, has made his way back to the caravan where he sees the body of his favorite clown. He notices Twisty’s mask and places it upon his face, and we then know the insanity has just worsened.

It seems Esmerelda brought the police and Jimmy and Esmerelda give their statements, but Jimmy has a message for the one detective who hauled Meep off. Someone is going to pay for Meep’s death and Jimmy is going to see to it.

Jimmy and Esmerelda make it back to the big top and are shocked to find a mob of townspeople showing up. When they confront the mob, it seems they are grateful for Jimmy saving their kids. It is touching to see the freaks get to experience a sense of belonging and welcome.  Elsa announces that the show is back on and preparations begin.

As Elsa is explaining the new set list to Dot and Bette, we see Spalding come in, but this time he is a talent scout from Hollywood, California. You see where this is going, right?  I think Elsa thinks her fortune is coming true.

For those of you wondering about Dandy, he made it home, twisted mask and all. He is met by his irate maid who begins her normal tirade on Dandy. However, it seems Twisty’s mask gives Dandy some type of new confidence and where he couldn’t kill before, he seems to have no problem now, as he slits the maid’s throat. Something tells me this “new Dandy” is not going to be a good thing. Yikes!
